The Antarctic Endurance 2016 launch event took place in the James Caird Hall at Dulwich College on Monday 12 October, in the presence of Patrons and sponsors.
The team is set for another training week in the mountains – this time in the Alps.
In 6 months the team will be joining the yacht Xplore at the start of their adventure. Much to be achieved before then by all involved.
In a bid to raise money for the project and get in some valuable team training, the members of AE16 will be tackling the 3 Peaks Challenge – climbing the highest peak in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. Donations can be given online at:
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh is the Royal Patron for Antarctic Endurance 2016.
The agreement between Xplore Expeditions and Antarctic Endurance 2016 has now been signed. All focus now on raising the final funds required.
After a great deal of consideration, the Final 18 team members have been selected.
The team spent a week in the Ciarngorms, based out of the MOD’s Rothiemurchus Lodge, gaining experience of living and moving round safely in snow-clad mountains.
The project team got together in mid-Wales for a combination of hill walking and brain storming.
The majority of the team were able to spend a week on the water at the start of August 2014, some for the first time. The remaining novices will complete the training at the earliest opportunity.
